Soil and Sand Auger Kits
Description
These were originally designed to sample for minerals in beach sands but now are used extensively for drilling and sampling in very sandy friable soils.
A 75mm (3″) diameter sand auger will penetrate 30 cm in about 4 turns, which fills the auger. In good conditions, one man can drill 10 metres in an hour, two men can drill 20 metres in two hours and 40 metres takes most of the day.

This is our most popular auger which is a general purpose design to handle most soil conditions, even very sandy soils. In stiff dry clay penetration can be improved by adding a little water to the hole. it is a 2 slot, 2 cutter, with a spiral tip design.

T-HANDLES & CAPSTAN
T-handess are for manual turning of the augers.
The Capstan is used to replace the T-handle when insufficient clearances prevent the T-handle from being used. The Capstan allows short movements by incremental turns using our Tommy Bars in the holes in the Capstan.

AUGER KITS
Several sample kits are listed and these can be varied to suit your individual requirements. A kit consists of a full set of equipment with at least 6 extension rods and a carry bag for which a 7.5% discount to the sum of the individual prices is given.

SAMPSPLIT50 - 50mm x 350mm SS split tube and supplied with 2 C-spanners
The Split-Tube sampler is for taking undisturbed samples in normal soils. The stainless steel tube is split into two longitudinal halves with threaded retainers on both ends to hold the halves together.
It is driven into the soil using a Slide Hammer. The end retainers are unscrewed using the C-spanners supplied and the tube halves are easily parted exposing the cored sample. The sampler is available in one size only which is a nominal 48mm (OD) with the actual sample size being 40mm by 350mm long sample length.
PUSH TUBE SAMPLER
The Push-Tube samplers are for taking undisturbed samples in normal soils. The thin walled tubes are held onto a stepped spigot on a Drive Adapter by 2 or 4 cap screws.
The Drive Adapter enables the tube to be attached to an Extension Rod and/or Slide Hammer. The tubes come in various lengths up to 300mm long and in nominal sizes of 50mm or 62mm or 75mm diameters.
The tubes are available in unpainted steel or stainless steel. An allen key is supplied to undo the cap screws.
The tubes are drilled with 4 holes and have 4 screws but 2 are enough to hold them on and the other 2 holes just make it easier to fit and the 2 extra screws become spares.
The cutting end of the tubes is sharpened and is rolled in our lathe to slightly reduce the cutting diameter which reduces friction between the soil and inside of the tube.

Drive Adapters are coarse thread only; and they need a Slide Hammer and Extension Rod to operate.
